About the ISHCC Code
The ISHCC Code of Conduct and Professional Practice clearly defines the high standards expected of ISHCC members and offers guidance on how these standards are met.
In applying for membership, you, voluntarily agree to abide by the content of the ISHCC Code and any future amendments or additions.
ISHCC members shall:
- Demonstrate commitment to provide the highest quality service to those who seek their services.
- Conduct themselves professionally and ethically concerning their clients, colleagues, and the general public.
- Treat clients by holistic principles and provide professional services for no other goals than the client’s total well-being.
- Recognize that their primary obligation is always to the client and agree to practice for their benefit. The clients’ comfort, welfare and health, must always have priority.
- Attempt to serve clients’ best interests at all times and practise within the limits of your competence.
- Continue professional development courses and improve upon their skills and professional standards with a minimum of 10 hours of professional development and 5 hours of one on one supervision and/or private Holistic coaching/ counselling sessions yearly.
- Provide services within the scope and the limits of their training and not employ techniques for which they have not had adequate training and shall represent their education, training, qualifications and abilities honestly.
- Acknowledge the limitations of their skills and refer clients to the appropriate qualified professionals when necessary.
- Refrain from diagnosing, prescribing or providing any service, which requires a license to practice unless specifically licensed to do.
- Act in a manner that does not damage the reputation of the profession.
- Maintain client confidentiality and not reveal the findings gained during the consultation, or in the course of professional recommendations, without the client’s consent, except when required by law.
- Support other Holistic Counsellors and Coaches at all times. Never criticise, condemn or otherwise scrutinise other Holistic Counsellors and Coaches in the presence of a client or colleague.
- Respect the rights of other healthcare professionals and cooperate with all healthcare professionals in a friendly and professional manner.
- Practice honesty in advertising and promote their services ethically and appropriately.
- Practice and advertise only those skills they have received adequate training or certification.
- Maintain their premises in a hygienic condition, and ensure that their premises offer Clients sufficient privacy.
- Maintain complete records of each client.
- Practise within the law.
- Ensure that they have obtained the necessary insurance, and agreed to their own countries laws regarding their profession.
- If being found to have infringed any of the By-laws of the ISHCC and this Code of Ethics, voluntarily surrender and return their membership certificate to the Association.
Failure to comply with any of the above can lead to the immediate removal of your membership without being eligible for a refund.
